Professor Hu Chaur-Jong Appointed as the New Dean of the School of Medicine

On April 1, 2024, the School of Medicine at Taipei Medical University celebrated a significant milestone with the appointment of our esteemed alumnus, Professor Hu Chaur-Jong, as its new dean. Dean Hu, a member of the 25th class of the School of Medicine, has returned to his alma mater after a successful career in neurology, including specialized training at Taipei Municipal Renai Hospital and research at the Stroke Center of Washington University in St. Louis, USA. His deep-rooted connection to the school and his expertise in neurology position him to lead the School of Medicine into a future of innovation and excellence.
Dean Hu possesses rich clinical neurology experience and has made significant contributions to academic research. After returning to his alma mater, he held various important positions, including Head of the Neurology Department, Vice Dean of the College of Medicine, Director of the Department of Neurology/Dementia Center at Shuang Ho Hospital, Director of the Teaching Department, Vice President for Research, Deputy Director of the Taipei Neurological Medicine Center, and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Neurological Medicine at the College of Medical Science and Technology. These roles underscore his outstanding leadership in medical education and research.
Dean Hu’s accolades further attest to his professionalism and passion in the medical field. His achievements include the “All-in-One Dementia Care Plan,” which won the Excellence Award in the Elderly Health Category of the Creative Program for Health Promotion Hospitals by the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare. He also ranked among the top in the country for the number of acute stroke intravenous thrombolysis cases and continuously passed the “Joint Commission International-Clinical Care Program Certification.” Additionally, he was awarded the “Medical Contribution Award” by New Taipei City. These accomplishments reflect his relentless pursuit of enhancing medical quality and patient care.
As the former president of the Taiwan Clinical Dementia Society and the Taiwan Neurological Society, Dean Hu has been devoted to advancing education and research in neurology. He has worked tirelessly to improve medical personnel’s understanding and treatment capabilities regarding neurological diseases such as dementia and stroke. His leadership and contributions have elevated Taiwan’s international standing in neurology and provided better treatment and care for patients.
Under the visionary leadership of Dean Hu Chaur-Jong, the College of Medicine is set to embark on a new era of excellence. His strategic plan includes strengthening the integration of research and teaching, promoting interdisciplinary cooperation, and cultivating medical professionals with a global perspective and humanistic care. His experience and vision will infuse new energy into the school, propelling Taipei Medical University to the forefront of global medical education and research.
