With the advent of declining birthrate, the health of newborns is more important. The purposes of the Maternity and Child Research Center are to integrate the medical manpower and resources of the Taipei Medical University and the affiliated hospitals, conduct integrated research in obstetrics and pediatrics, and explore the important factors, mechanisms, and treatments that affect maternal and child diseases; Clinical and translational research of obstetric and pediatric medicine to improve the quality of clinical services and education for women and children. In addition, the center will cooperate with government agencies to hold policy seminars for women and children to promote and improve maternal and child education. Encourage cooperative research projects with foreign medical centers and establish an international research advisory group.

Maternity and Child Research Center is currently conducting a national multi-center study (Intratracheal Administration of Surfactant/Budesonide to Prevent BPD in VLBW with RDS-A Double Blind Study) sponsored by Chiesi Pharmaceuticals, Italy. The purpose of the study is to explore whether early intratracheal administration of budesonide/Curosurf can improve respiratory distress syndrome and reduce the incidence and mortality of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants.
